I was transferred to Mike Company 3rd Bn 7th Marines in year of 1960. We went to Okinawa for one year. We left Camp Pendleton, California in 1960. We landed in Okinawa and for a while was at Camp Sukaran. Our Plt. Sgt. was Sgt. Windisch I believe it was spelled. Cpl Harris was a squad leader at the time. One of the best Black or White Sgt. made. In his case he was black and excellent leader to ALL.

Just a few words from an old timer to all our younger brothers in Bravo and all Third Marine Division that we are all praying for you. We have not and never will forget war and its ugly faces. I spent a lot of time in hot and cold windy deserts and know how alone and forgotten you feel. But remember, we are always with you and so are the spirits of the 5th and 6th Divisions of World WarI, The Corps Spirit of all those who served in World World II,Korea,Cuba,Viet-Nam, Bierut, Grenada, The Persian Gulf and your fellow Marines before you there and the ones with you. Remember you cannot and will not fail. You are U.S. Marines you have a right to win and a tradition to uphold. I want to wish each and every Marine and Sailor there the best and a Merry Christmas and Happy healthy New Year and Pray for Peace on earth to all Mankind. I served with the Sixth Marines in the Persian Gulf War were I learned to hate wind, smoke, flies, and sand. Be Proud you deserve the best because you are the best. Looking for information for my father, Raymond C. Taylor. Served in vietnam in Charlie company 35. Searching for an article written in "Stars and Stripes" and "Leatherneck Magazine" in November of 1965. The photo in the article is a picture of my father on a tank that said C35 on the fender. The photo and article was taken on the "Op Black Ferret" mission on November 3rd thru 5th, 1965. This is all the information I have. If anyone has any information, knew my father, or knows where I can retrieve this article and/or photo........any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am trying to locate some of you guys that I have not heard from in over 36 years. We went through hell together and you were the fightingest Leathernecks, I have ever been privileged to be with no matter the situation, you could be counted on.. From the ship on SLF Alfa to Quang Tri to Hi Lang Forrest, to Alfa 3, Leather Neck Square, to C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4, Ocean View, Little View, Middle View, Jones Creek, Dia Do, Gio Linh, and all area in between. The men of Bravo made the Corps look good in all they attempted. The Long death match up to Con Thien to help 1/1 out in November 1967 or policing up shrapnel on Christmas Day at Alfa 3. 1/3 came through especially Bravo Company. I want to say thank you to all our vets who have served and given their lives in present and past wars. My Son is with the 31st MEU and in Fallujah at this time. He was injured on Oct 30 ( he's healed and back doing his job) and lost 8 of his loved fellow Marines. As hard as it to be a mother of a marine in Iraq at this time, I know it must be done and I am so Proud of my son for putting his life on the line for a people that deserves just as we do to live without fear and to know that their children may one day have the choice to serve their country and help others. My heart brakes for those parents who have lost their beloved sons... what a price to pay. I am proud of all our marines who have chosen so unselfishly to server thier country. My huaband and I can't wait for that wonderful day where we can hug our boy once again. With the utmost respect, Gina Peel Proud parent of Lcpl N.Peel

Hey, I will like to say that I served with Bravo Co for 3 years as the Senior "DOC" and was very proud to work with all the Marines during my era. It was so hard to accept the deaths of LCPL Fox, LCPL Byrd, LCPL Scarborough, LCPL Lapka, LCPL Branning and other Marines that I didn't know personally. I know they are looking down at us right now from Heaven and wanting us to continue on with our mission. Semper Fi.

I live in San Antonio, Texas now and was downtown for the Veteran's Day parade. My wife and I stayed for the parade in memory of Phil. To all of you that knew him, I wish you the best. For all of you still serving our country, THANK YOU for everything you are doing. I wish you all the best and hope you return home in a safe condition. Your friends, family and you deserve to have you come home. Take care. Roy W. Norman

I'm not a USMC vet. My stepfather is. Im trying to find some info about him. I don,t know where to look. So I hope you can help me. This is what I know about him. He served with the 3rd marines in vietnam around Danang. I'm not sure of the dates, but; I know he was in the usmc from September 1966 to sometime just before June 1968. He said he was with the 3rd Marines. I don't know if the 3rd was his battalion or division. He absolutley will not discuss the matter. My mother has known him for 32 years and knows nothing about it. His name is Larry Wayne Brady born on 6-16-48. Originally from Lowes Kentucky. I don't know what happened to him or why he won't talk about it.

Happy Birthday to all Third Marines Past, Present, And Future. Especially all you Devildogs deployed around the world in harms way. America is proud of all you men and women who represent the best we have. Here is a prayer for your great Birthday no matter were you gather and be it 2 or 2000 it is all the same. Marine Birthday Prayer "0 Lord, we have long known that prayer should include confession. Therefore on behalf of the Marines and their guests here gathered, I confess their Sins: Lord, they are just not in step with today's society. They are unreasonable in clinging to old-fashioned ideas like patriotism, duty, honor and country. They hold radical ideas believing that they are their brother's keeper and responsible for the Marine on their flank. They have been seen standing when colors pass, singing the National Anthem at ball games, and drinking toasts to fallen comrades. Not only that, they have been observed standing tall; taking charge and wearing their hair unfashionably short. They have taken Teddy R's and JFK's words too seriously and are overly concerned with what they can do for their service and country instead of what the country can do for them. They take the Pledge of Allegiance to heart and believe that their oath is to be honored. Forgive them, Lord, for being stubborn men and women who hold these values as genuine. They are aware of the price for honor and with total command of their spirit, they have been willing to pay that price. After all, what more can you expect? They are Marines! 0 Lord our God, bless these men and women of ideals, continue to raise up in this nation strong leaders and deliver us from "me first" managers" and "don't ask me" followers. Be our honored guest this day, Oh Lord, and join with us in laughter, good food, good drink, and the telling of tall tales and legends that occasionally exceed the truth. We bow our heads to those who were lost in places that had names meaningless until the mud-Marines landed, and in that, mud reaffirmed the one legacy that brings all Marines together, the Blood and tears shed for service and each other. Watch over and keep safe all those who wear this nation's uniforms with special attention to their families and loved ones everywhere. Especially all our brothers deployed around the world in harms way. Father thank you for all your help in these times. Guide our leaders may they be strong but fair and firm and carry out you well only. With brandy and cigar in hand, I salute you all for through this day and all the following nights and days ahead, God bless you, God Bless this great nation and God bless the Corps. ""Arrruggha!" Amen Happy Birthday and God lay his mercy upon us as a Corps and as a Nation.November 10, 2004

Our young guns are following up in Iraq. Please keep all of them in your prayers. here is an excert about 3/3. November 02, 2004 Eight Marines from Hawaii-based unit killed in Iraq HONOLULU — Eight Marines from a Hawaii-based unit deployed in Iraq were killed by enemy action there over the weekend, the Pentagon said Monday. Nine other Marines were wounded Saturday when a car bomb went off next to a truck outside Fallujah in the Anbar province of Iraq. It was the deadliest attack against the American military in nearly six months. The eight deaths came as U.S. forces are gearing up for a major assault on Fallujah, seen as the toughest bastion of Sunni Muslim guerrillas, ahead of crucial elections due by Jan. 31. Col. Jeffrey J. Patterson, commanding officer of the 3rd Marine Regiment at Kaneohe, mourned the loss of the Marines, and said “they are not supermen, but they are heroes.” “As a Marine and a father of a Marine who is the same age as most of those who were killed, I feel the pain and anguish of their families,” Patterson said in a statement. “But this act has only hardened our resolve to stop those who are responsible for it. “We will double our efforts, and continue our mission to put an end to tyranny in Iraq and Afghanistan,” he said. “We will be successful in stopping these thugs, murderers and terrorists from killing and oppressing innocent people.” The Marines who died Saturday were identified by the Pentagon as: —Lance Cpl. Jeremy D. Bow, 20, of Lemoore, Calif. —Lance Cpl. John T. Byrd II, 23, of Fairview, W.Va. —Sgt. Kelley L. Courtney, 28, of Macon, Ga. —Lance Cpl. Travis A. Fox, 25, of Cowpens, S.C. —Cpl. Christopher J. Lapka, 22, of Peoria, Ariz. —Pfc. John Lukac, 19, of Las Vegas. —Pfc. Andrew G. Riedel, 19, of Northglenn, Colo. —Lance Cpl. Michael P. Scarborough, 28, of Washington, Ga. All but Courtney were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Expeditionary Force at Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe Bay in Windward Oahu. Courtney was assigned to the III Marine Expeditionary Force’s 3rd Intelligence Battalion in Okinawa, Japan. The deaths were announced the day after more Marines from Kaneohe began leaving for duty in Afghanistan. Byrd, a 1999 graduate of North Marion High School in West Virginia, was married while stationed in Hawaii, and his wife, Jessica, is expecting their son in January, the Times West Virginian in Fairmont, W.Va., reported Tuesday. “It gave him a purpose. He grew up then,” his mother, Nan Byrd, told the newspaper. The casualties from the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, came six days after the unit suffered its first casualty in the Iraq war. The unit arrived in Iraq last month. Lance Cpl. Richard P. Slocum, 19, of Saugus, Calif., died Oct. 24 in Germany from injuries suffered in a non-combat related vehicle accident near Abu Gharib, Iraq. In addition to the eight Marines, 24 soldiers and one civilian with notable Hawaii ties have died in Iraq, Kuwait or Afghanistan since the start of the war in Iraq in March 2003. Seven deaths in Afghanistan and nine in Iraq have been members of the 25th Infantry Division (Light) based at Schofield Barracks in central Oahu. Meanwhile, the first group of about 1,000 more Marines from Kaneohe began leaving Sunday for duty in Afghanistan. The members of the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, will be one of the major ground security forces in central and eastern regions of Afghanistan, said Lt. Col. Norm Cooling, the battalion’s commander. The deployment is scheduled to last seven months. “We’re prepared to go longer if it comes to fruition,” Cooling said Sunday. “However, I don’t think that will happen.” Among those leaving as part of the advance team was Gunnery Sgt. Stephen Muller, who left on his first combat deployment since joining the Marine Corps 14 years ago. “I am going to miss him,” daughter Mariah said, “but I think it’s cool he’s in the Marines and fighting for our country.” Happy Birthday Semper Fidelis and God Bless all Marine Past,Present, and Future.

Looking of Marines who serviced with me between 98-02. I've been trying to get on with the police force, and they are asking me for information with former Marines I served. I hate to admite that I don't have any information, but I would like to.

Just a few lines to say hello to the greatest Brothers and fellow Marines any man could ever wish to serve with. God bless all of you and I know your the toughest, meanest Bastards that ever worn the uniform. Remember all those operations from the DMZ, to High Lang Forest to A-3, C-3, and C-4. Those little picnics to Ocean View, Little View and Middle View. Those daily little walks around Quang Tri and Dong Ha, those dusty rides to the Rockpile. The night Force March up to Con Thien to help 1/1 in the middle of the night. The AO playing the Marine Corps Hymn for us and throwing out packs of smokes. Well Marines First Bn. Third Marines is well represented by our offspring’s and doing us great justice. What I am saying is happy Birthday and remember our Marines in all your prayers. It is getting to look more like our situation all over again. Semper Fidelis MGYSGT S.F.Reep 704-735-4666

Dear 3rd. Marine Veterans of the Vietnam War, a piece of history not listed here...Between 07-16 February 1966, "D" Company, 1st BN, 3rd. Marines, along with 3rd. RECON, and a supporting unit of Company "A", 3rd. Engineer BN., (to which I was TAD from Chu-Lai), embarked on Operation "TAUT BOW" in the mountains of Happy Valley. The operation was most memorable to me as it was the first time I had seen North Vietnam Regulars in their gray uniforms, (and have the photos to prove it!), we came across a NVA Training camp and several "way stations" of supplies which we destroyed. I remember we ran out of "C's" but were of such a high altitude the CH-34D's were flying below us and had a difficult time locating us...it was the firts time during my tour that I gladly ate the hated "ham & mother f***ers"...(Vets know what I mean!)...several NVA prisoners were taken, (some didn't survive their gunshot wounds of the mighty M-14)...anyone remembering participation in Operation "TAUT BOW" is welcome to respond..."TAUT BOW" was one of the many operations which earned 3rd RECON the NUC, but forgotten by historical reference. However, remains forever engraved in my memory, and page #9 of my SRB. Semper Fi, Mark A. Weinberger SGT. USMC 2078826 Viet-Nam: 07JUL65/19JUN66
